Bite the Wind

Sometimes I wish it were different between us.
In your eyes, I see light—
innocence, flickering in the hollows of your soul.
But you’re shrouded in your own darkness,
trapped inside a personal hell.
You can’t see the light within yourself,
yet you cast shadows onto others.

But me—
I see the light in you.
And somehow, that itself blinds me to it, too.
Like a timid dog, you keep your distance,
snapping at the wind to stop the breeze.

I loved you.
I truly did.

I hope one day, the light in you breaks through—
so bright, even you can't deny it.
And I hope that one day,
I can see it too.

I love you like a dog, ravaged by hunger.
And as you bite the wind,
I sink my teeth into myself—
just to feel what it might be
to hold you close.
